SOAP & GLORY 'ONE HECK OF A BLOT' FOUNDATION REVIEW

soap & glory one heck of a blot foundation
Foundation has always been the most troublesome makeup category for me. I've just never felt like I've found 'the one' that ticks all the boxes, so I've decided to do a little foundation series on my blog throughout 2016 where I'll be reviewing a drugstore foundation every month and then at the end of the year I'll do a roundup and crown my winner :) After being pretty blown away by the Soap & Glory 'One Heck Of A Blot' Powder and Primer in 2015 I've been really eager to give the matching foundation a try...

I'm going to be 100% honest and say my opinion on this foundation has been very up and down throughout the month. The first time I used it was a complete disaster - I'd popped a small blob on the back of my hand and used my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to apply and blend it, like I do with all my foundations, and my goodness me it just did not blend!! It ended up kind of gathering around my dry patches and just sitting in one place rather than blending out. I was really disappointed, but then I saw Pixiwoo rave about it in their drugstore foundation video and I was determined to find a way of making it work for me.

After looking at the instructions on the packaging I decided to try applying it with my fingers and then blending it into my skin with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush. This is definitely the best technique for applying this foundation as it made it super easy to blend and gave a really flawless, seamless look which I would describe as medium/full coverage. It's a very matte finish (as you would expect from it's description of being 'liquid to powder') so is perfect for oily/combination skin but I wouldn't recommend it if you suffer with dryness or dehydration because it has a tendency to cling to dry patches. It really is undetectable on the skin and doesn't feel heavy or cakey, but gives a 'your skin but better' finish with excellent coverage.

I have the palest shade 'fair enough' and unfortunately it's a smidge too dark for my casper skin. The shade range is pretty limited with only 4 options which is such a shame and something that's a huge problem with lots of budget foundations :( I love the simple packaging (although I know a lot of people prefer glass bottles for foundation) and the pump seems like it will stay nice and clean as the product just comes straight out without any spillage. Soap & Glory always get top marks for their wording on the packaging of all of their products and I like the detail that they put into the application instructions.

I have to admit I wouldn't buy this again - it isn't ideal for my dehydrated skin and whilst I love the flawless coverage it gives, I prefer my foundation to have more of a radiant/dewy finish. It's one of the most long lasting foundations I've ever tried though so I really hope Soap & Glory bring out another formula that isn't so matte and maybe add a few more shades too!

Do you have any foundation recommendations for me? I'd love to hear your thoughts if you've given this one a try :)

Love Holly xo

  6. It's so frustrating when a foundation just doesn't live up to your expectations. Sounds like a lot of hassle!

  7. I have this and feel similarly. It looked HIDEOUS with a BeautyBlender and whilst it was better with a brush, I just think there are better foundations out there I'd rather be using xx
